Bold Businesses Battle It Out For The R100 000 Cash Prize

Firstwatch Whisky Entrepreneurship Challenge

Did you hear about the Firstwatch Whisky Entrepreneurship challenge?

We invited aspiring entrepreneurs from all walks of life to attend the Firstwatch Whisky Entrepreneurship Challenge, where the victor walked away with the R100 000 cash prize!

Over The Rainbow was thrilled to partner with Firstwatch Whisky to inspire these amazing entrepreneurs to greatness. Our goal was to teach all attendees how to build and scale their businesses offering valuable business advice to ensure overall success.

Learning To Scale

The entrepreneurs received business tips on defining their mission and vision so that they could set clear goals for their businesses. We then showed them how to set up an effective marketing strategy to build their brand in order to boost brand awareness and drive sales. An effective marketing plan helps you reach the right target audience and ensures your product/service reaches the people who need it most.

Next, they moved on to leadership; we demonstrated how great leaders could courageously lead their businesses to victory through a sound business plan. The participants then learned how to write a business plan, an essential step for any company as it helps entrepreneurs examine the feasibility of their business financially, technically and economically.

Firstwatch Whisky Entrepreneurship Challenge Final Phase

The final phase of the entrepreneurship workshop was the most exciting. We taught all the entrepreneurs the recipe for an inspiring pitch strategy. The attendees learned how to confidently pitch their business strategy in an impactful and inspiring way to engage with their audience. Learning how to pitch your business plan is vital to the success of any business to gain investment or finance.

On the second day of the workshop, the entrepreneurs had the exciting opportunity to pitch their business plans to our panel of judges. These aspiring business leaders got to practise their pitch in a real-life scenario to help them gain confidence and fine-tune their pitch into a powerful presentation.

Once the judges had heard from all 20 business owners, we chose the top 11 who battled it out in the final round. The finalists were given the opportunity to pitch again, this time in JHB on Sunday the 20th February 2022.

Our 11 finalists were:

  • Ntsikelelo Magwaca: Lelomag (Pty) Ltd
  • Morris Qotoyi: Diza Poultry
  • Nandipha Sigwela: Occulus Enterprise
  • Nkululeko Mpambo: Mylandlord Property Solutions *

We would like to congratulate the winner, Siyabonga Ndlela from the Ndlela Agri Group who walked away with R100 000!

We’d also like to extend our sincerest thanks to Firstwatch Whisky for sponsoring this event; none of this would have been possible without you. Thank you for sharing your delicious whisky with us at the end of each day, allowing our attendees to network while enjoying a glass of first-class whisky.

Siyabonga Ndlela Founder of Ndlela Agri Group

We caught up with Siyabonga Ndlela, Founder of Ndlela Agri Group and asked him what it felt like to win the Firstwatch Whisky Entrepreneurship Challenge “Being the first prize winner is such an honour for me. I am truly grateful,” says Siyabonga. “The main reason I entered the Firstwatch Entrepreneur’s Challenge is that I wanted to get my name out there so that people could get to know about me and my business.

When asked what he intended to do with the prize money, he said “With the prize money, I will buy some machinery for my business and put up fencing where I plant my vegetables. I give back some of my vegetables to those who need them in my community, so I am happy that I will get to do more of that.”
