What is the 67 Logos Designathon?

67 Logos is an Over The Rainbow initiative, launched in 2018 to design 67 logos for 67 small businesses – all in one day – Mandela Day, 18 July 2022.

For many small businesses, owning an expertly designed logo is an ever-elusive goal. We wanted our initiative to have lasting impact and to help these entrepreneurs stand out in the South African market.

The effect of COVID-19 on the economy and small businesses means this is now more important than ever! Let’s unite through the power of design to make a difference.

Online. One day. 67 logos.

This is how it works:

  1. Apply as a designer offering your skills or apply as a small business looking for a professional logo.
  2. Designers are matched with businesses, based on their profiles, passions and experience.
  3. Designers receive their brief via email and liase directly with their matched businesses to design the logo in their own time and submit it by midnight on 17 July.
  4. On Mandela Day, 18 July, designers and businesses will join us for an online webinar to reveal the exciting logos.

Where/when does the event take place?

Usually in Johannesburg and Cape Town, but this year the event will take place online - due to COVID -19 which means that anyone can take part.

When do applications close?

Applications for 2022 will open on 8th June 2022 and will close again on 12th of July 2022.

Will transportation be provided?

The event will be online this year.

Is it free?

There is no exchange of money at all. This is a fully sponsored event and designers are donating their time and skills voluntarily.

Can anyone participate?

Designers will need a minimum of 3 years experience and all applications are vetted.

Will data / wifi be provided?

Please note that designers and businesses will need to have their own wifi provided. This is why we are keeping the online event to around an hour this year and designers will have time prior to Mandela Day to work on the logos.
